Three tips when buying paving stone cleaners

The weed sweeper can be manual, electric or battery powered. There are advantages and disadvantages with all of these.

  • A manual weed sweeper can be used anytime, anywhere. On the other hand, using it for longer periods of time can be tiring.
  • An electrically powered weed sweeper cleans effectively. However, it won’t work unless you’re close to an electrical outlet. If you have a large garden, you may need an extension cord.
  • A battery-powered weed sweeper is flexible, as you don’t need to be close to a power point. However, you will need to charge it regularly. It’s more suited to cleaning smaller areas.

The brush you use with your weed sweeper greatly affects the result.

A nylon brush removes soil, weeds and light stains without scratching honed or porous stone surfaces.

If you need a little extra power, a wire brush will remove even the most stubborn dirt, such as really stubborn weeds and moss growing between stones.

There are also all-round brushes that can handle different types of materials, so you can clean the patio, cobbles and driveway with the same brush.

Make sure you can attach an extra-narrow brush when you need to reach tight spaces.

If you're prone to backache, we recommend you choose an electric or battery-powered paving slab cleaner, preferably with an ergonomic handle and an adjustable shaft. There are also combi models where you can switch on electric mode when you need a little extra power. When the worst part is done, you can switch it off and continue on your own or with battery operation.

Here are some tips on how you make your own cleaning liquid for paving stones.
